Aaah’m Voting Yes at the Beehive. Grassmarket
Aaah’m Voting No at the Espionage Victoria St (Free Fringe)
By far and away the funniest shows we saw all week. Bruce is a sometimes Physics teaching, Gaelic speaking comedian who is by his own admission, the leading light of the Afro-Celtic comedy circuit ( his Mum’s Scottish and his Dad’s Ghanaian ). The Yes show was both comical and pointedly political and he certainly convinced me, by his wizardly use of Powerpoint, Venn diagrams, Bar charts and his thorough grasp of Constitutional law, not to mention his ability to seriously take the piss, that a “Yes” vote is the truly ethical thing to do. He was also very good at involving the audience and he used some Norwegians and a couple of ladies from North Carolina to excellent advantage without overtly upsetting them.
The No show is part of the Free Fringe (you always leave a donation) and utilises a significant amount of his past material. We did go to see him last year which is why we looked out for him this year. He patently wanted to use some of his material from the afternoon but was stymied because most of the audience had already seen him that day. Undaunted he delved into his back catalogue and entertained us royally.
Two fantastic shows and a name to look out for.
